What causes ED?

There are a number of factors, including diabetes mellitus, heart and vascular disease, smoking, obesity, lack of exercise and medication (especially for high blood pressure and depression). It is particularly important for a man who is under 60 to find out the reason for his ED since there may be underlying medical problems.

Does prostate enlargement affect erection?

While it was previously believed there was no relation, there is now evidence that men with LUTS (lower urinary tract symptoms) have a much higher incidence of ED. Men between the ages of 40-60 are encouraged to be very aggressive in checking their prostate to make sure they are not in danger of cancer, prostate enlargement or ED.

Does heredity play a role in ED?

It can, but only if a male inherits a tendency for early cardiovascular disease.
